Prolonged sitting may lead to breast cancer, colon cancer

You will agree that with the poplularity of FACEBOOK, most of us are sitting infront of the screens of our laptops, pc computers. A recent research has revealed that the physical inactivity and prolonged periods of sitting may increase incidence of breast cancer in women and colon or colorectal cancer in everyone.

The analysis of the study was presented at the annual conference of the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) in Washington, D.C.

In this study of 123,000 people, researcher found that the more time people spent sitting, the higher their risk of dying early. “Even among individuals who were regularly active, the risk of dying prematurely was higher among those who spent more time sitting,” researcher says.

James Levine, a professor of medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., says many people sit an average of 7 to 9½ hours a day. “If you’ve sat for an hour, you’ve probably sat too long,” he says.

If you are working sitting long, I do advise you to move every 30-40 minutes. Go to pantry for a glass of water, or some similar activity. While watching TV, move yourself in every commercial break.

The more physical activity you do, the lower your risk of these cancers, so please walk and do exercise daily.

Enjoy your best health.
