Practicing evidence based homeopathy

Evidence based practice (EBP) revolves around improved patient outcomes. Health professionals use the best evidence possible to make clinical decisions for individual patients. It involves complex and conscientious decision making based on the available evidence, and also on patient characteristics, situations, and preferences.

EBP recognizes that health care is individualized and ever changing. Finally, I would say EBP is the formalisation of the care process based on requirements of individual patient. This individualisation is practiced by homeopathic physicians for the last 200 years.

Homeopathy is a system of therapeutics founded in 1796 by Samuel Hahnemann on the principle that “like cures like”. Homeopathy, since its inception, has been used to treat a wide range of illnesses based on individualisation or in a way EBP. Hahnemann was the first person who advocated this strongly.

Hahnemann carried out testing medicines on healthy human beings before making any decision for prescribing them. This process which he termed as Drug Proving was the unique process of that centuary, remarked by Dr. Jugal Kishore of India in one of his writings. So, records of drug proving and materia medicas are evidence-based.

Similarly, Evidence based medicine (EBM) aims to apply the best available evidence to medical decision making. Current evidence based medicine focuses excessively on approach practiced by the individual health care provider. One can define EBP or EBM in various different phrases. I would say, this is the homeopathy which is having evidence-based medicines and treatment decisions are purely individualised. If you follow principles of homeopathy as laid down by Hahnemann, then you are practicing evidence based homeopathy i.e. EBH.

Central Council for Research in Homeopathy (CCRH) recently conducted 2 scientific seminars in India under the banner — SUCCESS STORIES IN HOMEOPATHIC PRACTICE.

All the presentations were having evidences that homeopathy works.

Dr. Rajat Chattopadhyay – PCOD
Dr. Pawan Chandak – Molluscum in HIV child
Dr. Anil Singhal – Angioma of Upper Lip
Dr. Ojit Singh – Acute Rhinitis

With such available clinical evidences, we can advocate evidence based homeopathy. Last month, we have seen a fresh debate on BBC raising issues about efficacy of homeopathic medicines, and similarly, in the past, in 2005, one of Lancet studies posed a question on effectiveness of homeopathy.
With our collaborative efforts and CCRH support, Lancet would be forced to publish that – Homeopathy is effective in all sorts of diseases and ailments.

I think this is the best time when we should join together and come forward with evidences that homeopathy works.

Enjoy HOMEOPATHY.

  1. Thank you for this information. Is there a way to obtain transcripts of the presentations above? Also, were these case reports, case series, or clinical trials?

  3. Dear Dr. Anil,
    Hope you will be fine.
I am in regular touch with you thru mails. I am frequently sending my cured case reports with evidence and various articles on Homoeopathy. These all are strong advocates for Homoeopathy. If you see the cases I havce already sent to you, there are miracles by Homoeopathy. Homoeopathy is a wonderful science though it might be unknown to some people and due to their ignorance, they might comment upon existence of Homoeopathy, but the very soon, Homoeopathy will be scientifically explained, we are in constant struggle and toiling hard to prove it.

  5. Dear Dr. Singhal,
It is indeed praiseworthy that you are taking up a cause that would promote homoeopathy. EBH is achieved through practicing classical homoeopathy. Even if we give evidence of wonderful solved cases, do you think these anti-homoeopathy people would agree the authenticity of cases? In HT, New Delhi, there was a newsitem that hundreds of people consumed and emptied globules of hom. medicines from a drug store in London saying that there is no effect of these medicines on them. What we should do is to work honestly on our principles and let the barking dogs bark. The cure results are sufficient to prove the worth of homoeopathy.
Am thankful for your kind communication.

Thank u so much for all the updates
Sir, i would like to tell u tat i participated in the recently concluded INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON RECENT ADVANCES IN HOMOEOPATHY at NIH, Kolkata. What was refreshing to c was that most of the speakers were talking of Evidence Based Practise & even the papers they presented wre based on evidences.
It ws actually so very interesting to c Scientists & Physicists(amongst speakers), along with Homoeopaths, debate & co-relate the mechanism by whch Hom. medicines work with certain scientific principles, whch in itself explains that Hom. is nt a Placebo science & it surely is evidence based!!
Many interesting research papers were presented from the likes of Dr. Girish Gupta (EVIDENCE BASED STUDY ON OVARIAN CYST), Prof. C.R. Mahata(IN SEARCH OF TACHNIQUE FOR IDENTIFYING POTENTISED HOMOEO-MEDICINES BEYOND AVOGADRO LIMIT); Dr. P.K. Joshi,Physicist (ENHANCED SUPER CONTINUUM GENERATION IN WATER IN THE PRESENCE OF ULTRA DILUTE SOLUTIONS); Prof. Gaurisankar Sa (ROLE OF HOMOEOPATHIC MEDICINES IN CANCER REGRESSION & REJUVINATION OF DEPRESSED IMMUNE SYSYEM: A MECHANISTIC STUDY); Dr. Elio Rossi, Italy( HOMOEOPATHIC THERAPY IN PEDIATRICS:OBSERVATIONAL STUDY FROM 1998-2008);Dr. Peter Fisher,UK(VARIOUS STUDIES DONE AT THE ROYAL LONDON COLLEGE,UK)
It ws truely an eye opener!!

  7. Dear Dr.Singhal,
Its indeed a very important step to keep making people aware the efficacy of homoeopathy through evidences which other scientific minded people pester upon time and again. My rejoinder was also there on the Lancet issue. As we all are dealing with various cases sucessfully through Homoeopathy. Its really ironical that drs from other disciplines do take the help of Homoeopathy for themselves and their family members alsobu not all are ready to accept it openly, theyt keep double standards. Anyways with the present scenerio things are improving. It seems that some forces are deliberately creating this confusion among masses for their vested interests.Homoeopathy has stood the challanges time and again and is striving for 200 years. Our master Dr.C.S.F Hahnemann has given a wonderful system to the world which works with no adverse effects. As I say that ‘Homoeopathy Ensures Health Safely’ . I have number of cases with evidences on my website http://www.ovihams.com also for the people to see and believe.
Lets hope that all of us work togather for theupliftment of Homoeopathy. To know exactly about the efficacy one needs to undergo theexperience.
    with best wishes.

i practice fully &dedicately in homeo have less time to attend seminars as they r far from our place etc so i would request u to take initiative to at put all working in such seminars for HOMEOPATHS Like me to gain more outof it

HELLO WITH ALL LOVE ,CARE AND REGARDS,
YOUR ARTICLE IS REALLY VERY INFORMATIVE AND USEFUL TO THE PROFESSION .HOEOMOPATHIC PRACTICE IS 100% EBM,(NOT AS PER THE GUIDELINES OF MODERN MEDICINES).OUR EVERY CURED PATIENT IS OUR EVIDENCE.
U WILL BE AGREE WITH ME THAT SO CALLED EBM CASES (AS PER MODERN MEDICINES)ARE VERY FEW IN NUMBERS,AS WE CANT EXPLAINES
MANY THINGS EVEN NOW IN OUR LABS.

I am glad to read such a good article based on evidence based homoeopathy. I think evidence based medicine is what we are practising ie,one form of drug proving and homoeopathy is totally based uopn it. its a totally scientific system of medicine.whereas evidence based practice is when during cinical practise u are fully recording a case ,taking photographs at various stage of disease,so that u can show or have evidence that this particular medicine has given miraculous result.
    thank you,dr deepti mali.

  12. The problem is these PSEUDOskeptics are saying that Homeopathic cures can’t be due to the remedies because there is absolutely NOTHING in the remedies and therefore all Homeopathic cures are due to either one of 3 phenomena i.e.-
    i)placebo-effect
    ii)observer bias
    iii)self-limiting of the disease

I have argued with them but they refuse to listen!

  13. Hi All,

Yes,Homeopathy works. That is what genuinely used people say about Homeopathy. People are living in Cell phone era where there is no physical material to send the information. Remote sate-lights can literally move any thing in the universe to any where in universe. These blind people still want to argue that there is no material in Homeopathy remedies to work , ignoring the energetic state of Homeopathy remedies. We have to pity them. Just Keep working on showing good results with Homeopathy to people. These people wake up one day to fight for their rights.

Also the articles reflected in your message from various Doctors be made available either through News papers or it will be a good idea to compile them and then publish under the heading EBH or EBM. 19. Respected Sir,
Your article is really thought evoking. This is high time that we all come up with this Evidence Based Practice. I read all the comments regarding this. I have some difference of opinion. The question is that are the cases which all submit are really evidence based? What is the actual meaning of Evidence-based practice? Is it only that we have special investigation reports as evidence? Or we should clinically diagnose a case too noting the findings ?
All might be thinking that why am I saying this. I witnessed the International Seminar on Recent Advances in Homoeopathy held in Kolkata. Several cases were presented which was so-called evidence-based. I quote one of them – A Dr. presented a case of astrosarcoma of spinal cord. He said neurological findings are not neccesary when there is a MRI report. How can a scientific world take this type of comment? Next another Dr. presented a case of adenocarcinoma of prostate where he gives two-three medicines at a time. Is this acceptable in such a platform?
I feel that we all should be scientific in our approach and present EBP cases and not just for the sake of it.

Regards to you Sir and to all.

Its really enlightening and refreshing to go through your article. I had been a regular reader of your and other articles on spirit india .com . I think this effort of yours which inspires amatuer minds like us will go long way. I would also like to add that even during the short spam of practice i had seen cures by homoeopathy(single mendicine ) well recorded and documented by my seniors. All these need to be presented in a consolidated form at some recognized platform so that the wrong claims about homoeopathy can be nullified.

Any scientific technology will have one common factor,i;e.it is reprodusable whenever it is repeated in the same scietific manner, for which the mechanisum of its functioning has to be explained. This is known as Evidence Based Medicine or in one word Technology. In homoeopathy the efficacy of the system is proved by its sucessfull results in curing the disease conditions, but the missing gap is not understanding the process of technology from begining to end. I feel Your approach towards evidence based practise will be foundation for bringing out the missing gap of technology that is evident in homoeopathy.

It is obvious that we are practicing evidence based, even though some time we become biased with that. Say, we found a patient of nepheolithiasis get well with Berbaris V. then we use this medicine frequently whenever we are getting such patient!

However, if we want to establish homeopathy in this world than we should reprove the medicine as they ask for or try to make them understand how does the proving has been done.
It may need to change the research protocol as because now a days no experiment is recognized untill done with double blind method. But we all know homeopathic medicine couldn’t be proved in this method.

    Good Luck Homeopaths.

  26. The Evidence based Medicine (EBM)should be not only in practise but also in homoeopathic litrature. All these days the homoeopaths are not accustomed to practise EBM because the books or the litrature thay study is not evidence bases. For example the recently published repertories in which no symptom is verified byreproving or re proved but they are re written and new symptoms are added. on what basis the new symtoms are originated what is the accountability and authority of new symptoms is not known. there fore the EBM must also be imlimented inhomoeopathic litrature.

My grandson who is 10 years old now suffers from DMD. He is under the care of well known Children Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA. However, you know that so far there is no cure or much hope for patients with this deadly disease.

I would appreciate if you can put us in touch with Dr. Solanki because we are very interested in her research and findings.
